Botox
Conveniently located to serve Tallahassee

Want Botox? Tallahassee Plastic Surgery Clinic patients are able to get an injection of the clinical formula of Botulinum Toxin Type A, known as BOTOX® Cosmetic or just Botox. A Botox injection makes it possible to immobilize selected muscles of facial expression, smoothing deep expression lines and furrows, especially around the forehead and eye area.

The Benefits of Botox®

Botox addresses a number of signs of the aging process:

  • Crow’s feet around the eyes
  • Horizontal forehead wrinkles
  • Vertical glabellar lines between the eyebrows
  • Chin wrinkles
  • Vertical platysmal neck bands

It is also often used in the medical world to resolve hyperhidrosis (excess sweating in areas like the armpits) and migraine headaches.

Patients looking for a treatment for cheek hollowness, tear troughs under the eyes, or wrinkles around the nose and mouth can benefit more from dermal fillers than from Botox. Botox is ideal for wrinkles caused by contracted muscles, but it cannot restore volume to the skin.

How Does Botox® Work?

Botox relaxes the contracted muscles that are responsible for the formation of fine wrinkles. People tend to form the same facial expressions and make the same facial movements over and over again. After years of this, the muscles become stiffer and are less able to return to an at-rest position. These contracted muscles cause the overlying facial skin to fold and form wrinkles.

Botox is a neuromodulator, a substance that can affect neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters carry nerve signals to the muscles, but when they are blocked by Botox, the muscles can relax back to an at-rest position. This allows the skin of the face to lie flat and smooth, restoring a youthful appearance.

The Botox® Treatment Session

At the start of a Botox Cosmetic treatment session, the targeted regions of the face are carefully marked to serve as a guide for the injector. A topical numbing cream may be applied, or local anesthesia may be injected. These options numb the area to any pain or discomfort that might otherwise be felt.

Once the numbing has taken effect, the injector will deliver precise injections of Botox into the contracted facial muscles. The entire Botox session only takes around 20 minutes or less to complete.

“I used Lauren for Botox and Fillers yesterday and she was awesome!!! So personable and committed to understanding what you wanted, explaining the different options and giving her recommendations about the best way to get the results you want. She did a fabulous job, with minimal pain! I highly recommend her!”

Aftercare

Patients can return to their normal day right after a Botox treatment without any recovery period or downtime required. Busy professionals can pop in for a treatment session during their lunch break, and because of this, Botox is often referred to as a “lunch time treatment.”

There may be a minor degree of redness in the treated areas, along with minor swelling and/or bruising. These are present with any type of injection and will fade shortly. Heavy sun exposure and alcohol consumption can exacerbate these issues, so avoid these activities for at least 24 hours after the treatment session.
