Many patients seek breast augmentation in order to increase the overall fullness and projection of the breast. The procedure can help to balance the features of the body, creating a cohesive aesthetic. Implants are also useful in restoring balance to the breasts themselves, virtually erasing any discrepancies in size or positioning.
It is important to note that breast augmentation does not correct for ptosis (drooping). However, breast implants can be used in conjunction with a breast lift procedure to reduce the amount of excess tissue while also improving volume. Breast augmentation is also commonly performed alongside tummy tucks, facelifts, or liposuction procedures.
Also known as augmentation mammoplasty, this procedure involves the use of silicone gel or saline implants. During your personal consultation with one of our doctors, you will discuss which type of implant will work best for your specific cosmetic goals. Silicone gel implants provide a more natural look and feel. Saline implants, on the other hand, provide a fuller, rounder appearance.
Additionally, there are various incision points that can be used to insert the implant. The most common incision locations include the breast crease (inframammary), underarm (transaxillary), or around the areola (periareolar). Incisions are expertly placed in these locations so any scarring will be as inconspicuous as possible.
Pre-filled implants or implants filled during surgery are then placed beneath the chest wall muscle (submuscular) or directly behind breast tissue (submammary) to achieve your desired volume. The type of implant, degree of enlargement, and your body type will all determine the placement of the prosthesis.
Results are immediate and any swelling should subside after approximately 2-4 weeks. Incision lines will continue to flatten and fade for up to a year.
