The Delicate Art of Blending Science & Nature
Soft Tissue Filler Procedures are on the Rise
The popularity of soft tissue filler treatments has surged in recent years, with a thirteen percent increase in 2013 alone. However, it should be no surprise that this “liquid facelift” is second only to BOTOX among minimally invasive procedures. Fillers add volume to the face, giving patients a restored youthfulness, fuller lips and minimize the appearance of facial creases and wrinkles. Additionally, these procedures have a lower cost than traditional surgery and provide immediate results, letting patients get back to their lives with a renewed confidence.
A soft tissue filler is often used to treat wrinkles around the mouth and nose, enhance the lips, augment cheeks and the midface. While they can restore fullness to the face of patients with moderate to severe wrinkles and folds, they cannot address sagging skin. Fillers are very versatile treatments and are often used in conjunction with other procedures such as BOTOX. Treatment regimens vary for different fillers; some treatments are done in one visit to your doctor, while others require follow-up visits. Results last from six months to two years depending on the product.
Soft tissue filler treatments have also grown in popularity due to the increased availability of various types and brands. Patients can choose between synthetic and natural fillers, but should consult with their doctor about which product is right for them. Hyaluronic acid, sold under the brand names Restylane, Juvederm Ultra Plus XC, Voluma and Sculptra, is the industry standard. Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in all living beings but breaks down quickly in its natural form. This manufactured alternative lasts longer and the injection can be immediately reversed by using hyaluronidase.
